New York is the best-served American city for Umrah, and the numbers show it. Across eight travel windows we priced in September 2026, JFK produced the lowest fare in the country in five of them. It also produced one of the largest swings between months of any airport we looked at.

Here is the whole year from JFK, round trip, economy, with a checked bag, for a group of nine travelling together.

The three things this table tells you

Ramadan is not expensive to fly to. $754 in Ramadan against $1,409 in late December is not a rounding error, it is the reverse of what most people assume. The Ramadan premium is entirely in Makkah hotel rooms, not in the air. We set out those hotel figures in why Makkah hotel prices climb in Ramadan.

Late December is the expensive window, not Ramadan. The week between Christmas and New Year is when American families can travel, and the airlines price it accordingly. If your dates are driven by the school calendar, expect to pay for it — but note that the New Year window at $1,052 was $357 cheaper than late December for a trip only ten days later.

Royal Jordanian owns this route from New York. It appeared as the cheapest bagged fare in five of the eight windows. It is a one-stop through Amman with a short second leg of about two and a half hours, and Queen Alia airport is one of the easier places in the world to change into ihram. More on the hubs in choosing your Umrah connection.

The one to watch at JFK

New York is also where we found the largest checked-bag gap of anywhere in the country. In late October, the cheapest fare on the page was $783 — but it carried no hold baggage. The cheapest fare that let a pilgrim check a bag was $941. That is $158 per person, and on a family of four it is over $600.

This is not unusual at JFK specifically, because more European carriers compete for the New York to Middle East market and more of them sell hand-baggage-only fares. Search with the bag filter on. Here is the full data on that.

JFK or Newark?

Both work. JFK generally carries the cheaper fare on this route because more carriers serving Jeddah operate from it. Newark is worth a look if you live in northern or central New Jersey, where the drive, the parking and the return trip at five in the morning are part of the real cost.

LaGuardia is not useful here — there are no long-haul options to the region.

If you are in New Jersey rather than New York proper, our New Jersey page covers the EWR, JFK and Philadelphia comparison properly.

Planning around the numbers

If your dates are flexible, late October and the whole of Ramadan are the cheap windows from New York, and they are cheap for different reasons. October is low season everywhere. Ramadan is cheap in the air and expensive on the ground.

If your dates are fixed by school holidays, look at the New Year window rather than the week before Christmas. Ten days later, over $350 cheaper per person.

If you want the last ten nights of Ramadan, the flight will cost you about $766 from JFK. The hotel is the decision, and it needs making early — see choosing your Ramadan ashra.

Every figure on this page is one we recorded ourselves and used to build a real package. You can see the New York price for each of our group departures, and the full picture for the city on our Umrah from New York page.
