Seattle is about 7,500 miles from Jeddah. No airline flies it nonstop, and nobody is likely to. Every itinerary from SEA connects at least once, usually in the Gulf or Europe, and the realistic door-to-door figure is twenty-two to twenty-six hours.
That length changes what matters. From New York the main question is price. From Seattle the main question is whether you arrive in a state to perform Umrah properly.
What the West Coast costs
We do not publish an advance price from Seattle, so we are not going to print a fare here that we did not research. What we did price, across eight travel windows in September 2026, is Los Angeles — the nearest gateway where we hold prices in advance, and a reasonable reference point for the West Coast:
| Travel window | Los Angeles (LAX), round trip with a bag | Carriers |
|---|---|---|
| Ramadan, first ashra (Feb 2027) | $982 | Royal Jordanian |
| Ramadan, last ten nights (Feb–Mar 2027) | $982 | Royal Jordanian |
| Late October 2026 | $1,018 | Royal Jordanian |
| Ramadan, second ashra (Feb 2027) | $1,055 | Royal Jordanian |
| Ramadan, last ten, Makkah first | $1,066 | Qatar Airways |
| Late November 2026 | $1,067 | Egyptair |
| New Year 2027 | $1,263 | Turkish Airlines |
| Late December 2026 | $1,423 | Royal Air Maroc |
The pattern is the same one we found everywhere: Ramadan is the cheap season in the air and late December is the expensive one. The gap from Los Angeles was $441 per person between the cheapest Ramadan window and late December.
For Seattle specifically, you have three shapes available:
- One ticket from SEA with a connection abroad. Simplest, bags checked through.
- One ticket from SEA connecting through a US hub, then the long-haul. Two connections, a long day.
- Fly or drive to Los Angeles and start the long-haul there. Rarely worth 1,100 miles of driving, but worth pricing if you were visiting family in California anyway.
We price any US airport on request. Ask us for Seattle and we will quote it against the Los Angeles figure above so you can see both.
The time difference is the real problem
Saudi Arabia runs ten or eleven hours ahead of Pacific time, depending on whether daylight saving is in effect. That is nearly the largest shift possible. Noon in Seattle is ten or eleven at night in Makkah.
Three things that genuinely help:
Start shifting before you leave. For four or five days before departure, move sleep and meals an hour or two earlier each day. You will not close an eleven-hour gap, but arriving with four hours of it already absorbed is the difference between a lost first day and a usable one.
Treat the first day as a rest day. Do not plan to perform Umrah within hours of landing after twenty-four hours of travel. Pilgrims who try it are the ones who end up ill three days later — see why so many pilgrims get sick on Umrah.
Take the arrival time into account when you choose a flight. Landing at 2 a.m. local means your first night is mostly immigration and a drive. Landing in the late afternoon lets you pray Maghrib and Isha and sleep on local time immediately.
Fly into Madinah if you possibly can
This matters more from Seattle than from anywhere else in the country.
If you land in Jeddah, you must already be in ihram when the aircraft crosses the miqat on approach. On a Seattle itinerary that means changing at your connecting airport — somewhere around hour sixteen of your day — and staying in ihram through the last flight, immigration, baggage and the drive to Makkah. It is a long time to be in two unstitched cloths after a transpacific or transpolar flight.
If you land in Madinah, none of that applies. You arrive in ordinary clothes, go to the hotel, sleep, pray at the Prophet’s Mosque, and enter ihram at Dhul Hulayfah a few days later on the road to Makkah — rested, in daylight, at a place with proper facilities.
Most of our own group departures are built this way for exactly this reason. The full argument is in fly into Jeddah or Madinah.
A few Pacific Northwest specifics
Check the bag allowance on your fare, not the airline. Seattle’s transatlantic and transpolar options include European carriers, and that is where hand-baggage-only fares live. We found the gap reaching $158 per person on some routings — here is the data.
Book the long connection, not the short one. After sixteen hours in the air, a ninety-minute connection at Istanbul is not a rest, it is a run. Four hours is a gift.
Get the meningitis certificate early. It is required, and arranging it in the US takes longer than people expect. Here is how.
What we can do from here
Our eight advance-priced gateways are New York, Chicago, Washington, Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles, Houston and Detroit. Seattle is not among them, and we would rather tell you that plainly than publish a number we have not checked.
What we can do is price any of our group departures from Seattle, on the same dates, with the same hotels and the same inclusions, usually the same day you ask. Tell our team where you fly from and we will send the Seattle figure alongside the Los Angeles one.
