India is one of the easier trips home from Canada, because you can fly nonstop to Delhi from both Toronto and Vancouver. For other cities, or a better price, a single connection opens up the whole country. Here is the full picture, and how we can book it for you.
Good news: nonstop to Delhi
- Air Canada flies nonstop from Toronto (YYZ) and Vancouver (YVR) to Delhi (DEL).
- Air India also flies nonstop from Toronto and Vancouver to Delhi.
For Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and the rest, or often for a lower fare, you take one connection.
The one-stop airlines
For cities beyond Delhi, or to save money, the connecting carriers are excellent:
- Qatar Airways via Doha, Emirates via Dubai, Etihad via Abu Dhabi, and Turkish via Istanbul reach Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kochi, Ahmedabad and more, from Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Calgary.
Nonstop or one-stop: how to choose
- Choose nonstop to Delhi when the time saved matters and the fare is reasonable.
- Choose one-stop when it is noticeably cheaper, or when your destination is a city other than Delhi.
When it is cheapest
The low-demand weeks, usually late January and February, tend to be cheapest, with autumn good value too. The dearest times are summer, the Diwali season, and late December. Book early for those peaks.
Tips for a smoother trip
- Compare nonstop against one-stop on your dates, as the price gap varies a lot.
- Fly from Toronto or Vancouver for the most nonstop choice.
- Mind the baggage allowance for gifts, especially on the nonstop carriers.
