For Canadians flying home to Pakistan, there is one fact that shapes the whole trip: PIA flies nonstop from Toronto, and it is the only nonstop between the two countries. Everything else is a single, well-placed connection. Here is the full picture for Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad and beyond, and how we can book it for you.
PIA: the only nonstop from Canada
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flies nonstop from Toronto (YYZ) to Lahore (LHE), Islamabad (ISB) and Karachi (KHI). As of late 2026 it runs a few times a week, though frequency shifts with the season and the route has seen short maintenance pauses, so it is always worth confirming current dates.
Two things make PIA worth a close look from Canada:
- It is the only nonstop. No connection, no second airport, no missed-connection risk. For many families, especially with children or elderly parents, that is the deciding factor.
- The air-rail add-on. PIA lets you fly into Toronto and continue by train to several Canadian cities on a single ticket. If you live outside Toronto, that can make the nonstop practical without booking a separate domestic flight.
The one-stop airlines
For daily departures, newer cabins, and flights from cities other than Toronto, the connecting carriers are excellent and often better value:
- Qatar Airways, via Doha. Top-rated, serving Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad.
- Emirates, via Dubai. Comfortable, generous baggage, from Toronto and Vancouver.
- Etihad, via Abu Dhabi. Comfortable and often well priced.
- Turkish Airlines, via Istanbul. Strong value, with Vancouver and Toronto departures.
- Saudia, via Jeddah, which is handy if you are combining the trip with Umrah.
Flying from Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary and beyond
Outside Toronto there is no nonstop, so you connect once:
- Vancouver (YVR) to Pakistan through the Gulf or Istanbul, with Turkish and the Gulf carriers strong on this routing.
- Montreal (YUL) and Calgary (YYC) likewise connect once through a hub.
- Or take a domestic flight to Toronto and pick up the PIA nonstop, or use PIA’s air-rail add-on.
Nonstop or one-stop: how to choose
- Choose PIA nonstop when avoiding a connection matters most, and your dates line up with its schedule.
- Choose a one-stop carrier when you want daily options, a newer cabin, through-checked baggage, or you are flying from a city other than Toronto.
- The price gap varies, so it is worth comparing both for your exact dates.
When it is cheapest
The low-demand weeks, usually late January and February outside any Eid, tend to be cheapest, with autumn also good value. The dearest times are summer, mid to late December, and the days around Eid. Book four to six months ahead for those peaks, when seats sell fast.
About PIA, in brief
PIA is Pakistan’s national carrier and the only airline linking Canada and Pakistan without a stop. Schedules, frequency and baggage rules on the Toronto route change from time to time, and the airline has gone through major restructuring, so treat any schedule you see as a snapshot and confirm the current details before you pay. We keep track of what PIA and the connecting carriers are actually flying week to week.
