Most Hajj mistakes are avoidable with a little knowledge. Here are the common ones, before and during, and how to sidestep each.
Before you go
- Overpaying for a package. The costliest mistake of all. Resellers add thousands over the official Nusuk price. Book direct and see the markup trap.
- Registering late. Good packages and flights sell out. Create your Nusuk account early.
- Passport problems. A name mismatch or near-expiry passport causes delays. Check the documents checklist.
- No physical preparation. Hajj is demanding. Walk daily and break in your shoes.
In ihram
- Using scented products. Soap, deodorant and lotion must be unscented in ihram. Pack accordingly.
- Not knowing the rules. Learn the ihram restrictions before you enter it, so you do not break them by accident.
During the rites
- Not knowing the order. Confusion on the 10th is common. Learn the days of Hajj in advance.
- Losing patience. The crowds test everyone. An accepted Hajj means no arguing or sin, so let things go.
- Wasting Arafah. The most important hours of Hajj. Do not spend them distracted; pour your heart into du’a.
- Pushing at the Jamarat. Move calmly, protect the weak, and never endanger others for a “better” position.
Physical and health slips
- Dehydration and heat. Drink constantly and seek shade. See the health guide.
- Overpacking. You carry your bags through crowds. Pack light.
Avoid them with guidance
