“When is Hajj 2027?” is the question on every intending pilgrim’s mind. Here are the expected dates, how long Hajj takes, and why the dates can only be confirmed close to the time.
Expected Hajj 2027 dates
Hajj 1448 is expected around 14 to 19 May 2027, with the most important day, the Day of Arafah, near 15 May 2027. Because Hajj follows the lunar calendar, these dates depend on the sighting of the moon for the month of Dhul Hijjah, so treat them as close estimates until officially confirmed.
How long does Hajj take?
The core rites run about five to six days, from the 8th to the 12th or 13th of Dhul Hijjah. But most pilgrims are away two to three weeks, because the trip usually includes time in Madinah and days in Makkah before and after the rites. See the days of Hajj.
The five days at a glance
- 8th (Tarwiyah): travel to Mina.
- 9th (Arafah): stand in prayer at Arafat, the heart of Hajj, then Muzdalifah.
- 10th (Eid): stoning, sacrifice, shaving, and Tawaf al-Ifadah.
- 11th and 12th (Tashreeq): stoning at Mina, then the farewell tawaf.
Why the date moves each year
The Islamic calendar is lunar, about 11 days shorter than the Western year, so Hajj falls roughly 11 days earlier each year. In 2027 it lands in May, which means heat is a real factor. See the health guide.
